From Burnout to Balance: The Role of Self-Care in Entrepreneurship

As the holiday season is here and people realize that entrepreneurship isn't just a part-time job self-care has never been more important. Building boundaries, taking breaks, and taking care of you is essential for entrepreneurs to avoid burnout. Here are a couple of reasons why entrepreneurs prioritizing self-care is imperative to reach business goals.

From Burnout to Balance: The Role of Self-Care in Entrepreneurship

Self-Care Helps Avoid Burnout

If you're doing business the right way, sometimes the holiday season is the busiest time of year for business owners. Practicing self-care helps business owners feel energized and focused while preventing physical and mental burnout.

Self-Care Boosts Productivity

Many entrepreneurs find out that putting themselves last on the list is a bad idea. For one, if you're not rested how can you operate your business the way that you need? Rest and self-care lead to better decision-making, creativity, and efficiency. It is a superpower to recognize when you need rest. Taking a rest shows strength. As long as you don't quit, you're doing great. A hustle culture that promotes always hustling, and always working is not humanly sustainable when running a business and taking care of yourself.

Self-Care Helps You Set Healthy Boundaries

Being a business owner and setting healthy boundaries are important as saying yes to everything can be a bad thing leading to being stretched too thin and or burnout. Especially during the holidays, give yourself grace. Do know that you can't be everything for everyone if you don't have yourself in order. It's okay to say no to someone because you want to do something for yourself.

Self-Care Helps You Stay Healthy

The holiday season brings lots of holiday parties filled with food and long hours. Pressing pause to exercise, practicing healthy eating, and getting an adequate amount of sleep can lead to a better you. No matter how great your product or service is, you are the most important part of your business. If you can't physically/mentally be present for your business, take a break and prioritize yourself.

Self-Care Boosts Creativity

Sometimes we work so hard that we forget why we started. Taking a well-deserved break, especially during the holiday season helps us step back with a fresh mind and remember why we started. Author and inspirational speaker Simon Sinek once said "People don't buy what you do they buy why you do it." Crafting your why is imperative for your mission and can help you recharge and rekindle the passion you have for your mission.

The end of the year is always a great time to step back and focus on personal well-being and reflections. If you're "always on" you don't get the chance to sit back and see all your accomplishments. You don't have to be a millionaire to be successful. As long as you're doing better than yesterday, you've "won" entrepreneurship. Remember that self-care isn't selfish and we are our hardest critics. This holiday season and beyond don't forget to put yourself on the list of priorities while running your business as you don't want your business running without you.
